Couple's Retreat/ 90 Days of Marriage

So we made it through our first 90 days of marriage. It still feels like just yesterday we were on our honeymoon! Even still, married life is one big adventure - with every step there are more challenges and more rewards. We now are going into our first holiday season as a married couple so I am anxious to see how it will turn out. It seems like things will be just fine. For thanksgiving we will be visiting both of our families which will be very nice to get some time to see everyone. Plus we get two meals instead of one!

It is safe to say that these last few weeks have been very humbling in the fact that we have both learned that we have SO much more to learn about marriage and lots of practice in getting it down right. Translation: The process of sanctification is in full swing in regards to our relationship. Jason is learning all the more what it means to let us spiritually as a couple and I am learning all the more what it means to submit and obey. It is a dynamic of our relationship that we've been implementing since our engagement, but regardless of how long you do it or how hard you try, sinful human nature always makes it something that requires work.

Speaking of sanctification: To celebrate our three months as husband and wife, this past weekend we were blessed with the opportunity to go to the Grace Church of Sacramento Couples Retreat at Mount Herman Christian Camps and Conference Center. It was six sessions lead by Brian and Myra Shealy (an awesome and totally Godly couple) over the course of a weekend. The best part about the experience is that while the sessions were topical in nature, the messages themselves were simply expositions of passages. It truly was exposing the Word in regards to certain issues in marriage (ie communication, fiance, etc.). The way the sessions built on each other was just beautiful and even the time spent with men and women separated was beneficial. Although it was kind of weird to be alone for a while at a couples retreat!

The main lesson to be taken from the retreat was that the purpose of marriage is to worship God and the aim for every married couple to work to do whatever you can to worship God in everything you do in your lives and your relationships. Along side that (but not nearly as important) the campus was gorgeous and the accommodations were amazing - oh yeah, and the food was just awesome, too! We really had an opportunity to meet new people (some from Grace church and some not) to share the experience with. God provided a fruitful and beneficial time this weekend. Such a great way to start the holiday season!

Pictures of the retreat coming soon!

In Christ,
Sarah (and Jason)
